Shannon Smith, Beadslinger

I once had a friend who was upset with me.  She was trying to think of something mean to say, but what she said has stuck with me forever, and I think of it in a positive way.  She said, ".....well, you spend your days slinging beads."  My husband and I still joke about that, but the days that I get to "sling beads" are some of the best days in my life.  I've been collecting beads and making jewelry for many years.

Some of my beads are extremely rare, and others were made by artists in Murano, Italy, Czech Republic, and Guthrie, Oklahoma! I love to give jewelry as gifts, especially when I travel and meet new friends.  But when someone values my jewelry enough to buy it, I can't help but feel a little proud.

Many of my pieces are one-of-a-kind, but I rarely make the same design more than three times.  A lot of pieces have a story about the far away place from where the beads have come.  Other pieces tell a story themselves because of the beads and trinkets I've put into them.  Welcome to my world of bead slinging.
